Why Changing Your Mind Isn’t Flaky—It’s Feedback

You said yes three weeks ago, and you meant it then. But now the thought of following through makes your chest tight. So you start the internal chastisement: I’m so flaky. I never finish anything. Why can’t I just commit?

Here’s what’s actually happening: your energy shifted. Your priorities realigned. What felt expansive three weeks ago now feels misaligned. That’s not a character flaw. That’s information.

The Mismatch: Linear Commitments vs. Cyclical Energy

Most systems assume you’re the same person making the same decision with the same energy every single day. They don’t account for the fact that your nervous system runs in cycles. Your capacity fluctuates, and your interests shift with your phase.

As a Manifesting Generator in Human Design, this is something that happens to me. A lot! And this shifting and bouncing around used to make me feel really guilty – like something was wrong with me that my interests kept changing.

You see, when you commit to something during a high-energy, expansive moment and then feel resistance when that energy wanes, the framework tells you you’re failing. But the framework is wrong. You’re not flaky or wishy-washy. You’re cyclical.

The shame doesn’t come from changing your mind. It comes from living in a system that treats steadiness as virtue and shifting as weakness.

Reframing "Flakiness" as Phase Feedback

What if “I don’t want to do this anymore” isn’t flakiness? What if it’s clarity?

What if losing interest isn’t a failure of discipline, it’s your body telling you this commitment no longer serves you?

Flakiness implies randomness. Feedback implies data. And your shifting interests are data about what aligns with your current reality.

Some things you release because they were never truly yours. They were shoulds dressed up as wants. Others you release because you’ve outgrown them. Both are valid. Both deserve recognition, not shame.

The question isn’t “Why can’t I stick with things?” The question is “What is this shift telling me about where my energy actually wants to go?”

The Leo Full Moon Invitation: Shine Where You Actually Are

Tonight’s Full Moon in Leo asks a specific question: Where are you performing commitment instead of living it?

Leo energy is radiant, expressive, and unapologetically visible. But true Leo confidence isn’t about maintaining an image, it’s about showing up fully in the truth of this moment, even when that truth has changed.

This Full Moon doesn’t want your guilt about what you used to want. It wants your honest assessment of what’s true now. It wants you to take up space in your actual life, not the theoretical one you committed to weeks ago.

The invitation: Stop shrinking to fit old commitments. Let yourself be seen in your current phase, with your current priorities, in your current truth.

A Simple Full Moon Practice: Honor What's True Now

Tonight, give yourself permission to name what’s shifted.

You’ll need:

  • A piece of paper
  • A pen
  • Optional: a candle

The practice (5 minutes):

  1. Light your candle if you’re using one. If not, just sit somewhere quiet.
  2. Write this prompt at the top of your paper: “What commitment am I holding that no longer fits?”
  3. Write one sentence. Just one. Name the thing you’ve been forcing yourself to maintain even though it doesn’t align anymore.
  4. Under that, write: “What I actually need right now is…” Complete it in one sentence.
  5. Read both sentences out loud. Let yourself hear the shift without justifying it.
  6. Fold the paper and place it somewhere visible for the next three days as a quiet reminder that your truth is allowed to evolve.

That’s it. No elaborate ritual. No need to burn anything or release anything ceremonially. Just the act of naming what’s true and letting that truth exist without shame.

What This Means for Your Calendar

You don’t need to cancel everything or blow up your commitments. But you do need to stop treating every “yes” as permanent.

Some commitments deserve renegotiation. Some deserve completion even when they’re hard. And some deserve release. The shift itself will tell you which is which, if you stop shaming yourself long enough to listen.

Your system doesn’t need more discipline. It needs more honesty about what phase you’re in and what that phase requires.
